Abstract

Соломонові острови стали ключовим театром військових дій у Тихоокеанській кампанії Другої світової війни, визначивши стратегії та тактики морської, наземної та повітряної боротьби. У дипломній роботі досліджено військові кампанії на островах Гуадалканал, Нова Джорджія та Бугенвіль, що мали вирішальне значення для перебігу війни в регіоні. Об’єктом дослідження є бойові дії союзників і японських військ на Соломонових островах у 1942–1945 роках. Предметом дослідження є історіографія, джерельна база, а також ключові битви та операції на островах, що вплинули на стратегічний баланс у Тихоокеанському регіоні. Мета роботи – всебічний аналіз кампанії на Соломонових островах, включаючи хід бойових дій, роль союзників та новаторські військові підходи, що виникли під час цих операцій. Для досягнення мети поставлені такі завдання: • Проаналізувати наукові джерела та історіографію кампанії; • Дослідити стратегічне значення Соломонових островів у Другої світовій війні; • Розглянути наземні, морські та повітряні битви, такі як битва за Гендерсон-Філд, морські битви біля острова Саво та битва в затоці Августа; • Оцінити ефективність та інноваційність військових тактик, застосованих обома сторонами конфлікту; • Розкрити роль союзників, включаючи США, Австралію та Нову Зеландію, у кампанії. Дослідження демонструє, як стратегічна ініціатива союзників у Тихоокеанському регіоні дозволила переломити хід війни, забезпечивши значний внесок у перемогу над Японією. Робота висвітлює значущість Соломонових островів як переломного моменту Другої світової війни. The Solomon Islands became a pivotal theater of operations in the Pacific campaign of World War II, shaping strategies and tactics in naval, land, and air warfare. This thesis examines the military campaigns on Guadalcanal, New Georgia, and Bougainville, highlighting their critical role in the war's outcome in the Pacific. The object of the research is the military operations conducted by Allied and Japanese forces on the Solomon Islands from 1942 to 1945. The subject of the research includes historiography, source analysis, and the major battles and operations on the islands that influenced the strategic balance in the Pacific region. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the Solomon Islands campaign, examining the course of combat operations, the Allies' role, and innovative military approaches developed during these operations. To achieve this aim, the following tasks were set: • Analyze scholarly sources and historiography of the campaign; • Examine the strategic importance of the Solomon Islands during World War II; • Study land, naval, and air battles, such as the Battle for Henderson Field, the Battle of Savo Island, and the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay; • Evaluate the effectiveness and innovation in military tactics employed by both sides; • Highlight the contribution of Allies, including the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, to the campaign. The study demonstrates how the strategic initiative of the Allies in the Pacific region turned the tide of the war, making a substantial contribution to the defeat of Japan. The work underscores the significance of the Solomon Islands as a turning point in World War II.
