dc.description.abstract | The research is devoted to the identification of English-language ergonyms in the United Kingdom and the United States, analysis of their structural, semantic, functional features and impact on everyday life in these countries. In the process of this reseach essence of the concepts "onym", "onomastics", "ergonym" was found, the meaning of the concept of "ergonym" was revealed. In addition the origin, classification and functions of ergonyms were studied. In the practical part of our research paper we analysed ergonyms which function in the English-speaking socio-cultural space in order to determine their semantic potential as well as their structure and the ways of their formation. On the basis of coparative method the specific features of British and American ergonyms were identified. The material of the study were ergonyms, taken from English-language articles, reference books, local history literature, brochures, travel guides, business registers, as only documentary recording of available ergonyms ensures their accuracy, reliability and truthfulness of the information (172 units). A study of the functioning of ergonomics in the British socio-cultural space led to the conclusion that they were formed and operated under the influence of the whole spectrum of public life in the country, as well as the development of industry, entrepreneurship and media. Ergonyms in the American English reflect the history of the creation and development of statehood in the United States, the multinationality of the country, the influence of different cultures on the formation of a common American socio-cultural space. 75 examples of ergonomics in the British and 75 examples of the American socio-cultural space have shown that ergonomics are markers of human communication in the socio-cultural space. | uk_UA |
