Abstract: | Thesis topic: "Peculiarities of the author's style and ways of its translation from English to Ukrainian on the material of Regina Brett's novel "God never blinks". The relevance of the study is determined by insufficient study of the principles of transfer of semantic and stylistic features of the original text in the translated text; the lack of a comprehensive system of ways to convey semantic and stylistic features during translation; the constant expansion of international cultural ties and the need for highly artistic translations, which involves increasing attention to all levels of the text. The aim of the work is to identify and describe peculiarities of the author's style and ways of its translation from English to Ukrainian on the material of Regina Brett's novel "God never blinks". The realization of this goal involves solving the following tasks: 1. to analyze the concept of literary translation as an object of linguistic research; 2. to describe the features of translation transformations in the literary text; 3. to investigate the semantic and stylistic features of the novel; 4. to identify ways to translate the stylistic method of comparison in the novel; 5. to analyze the use of transformations in the translation of the novel; The object of study is the novel "God never blinks". The subject of the study is a description of peculiarities of the author's style and ways of its translation from English to Ukrainian on the material of Regina Brett's novel "God never blinks". Research methods are determined by the purpose and objectives of this work. During the writing of the work the following methods were used: 1) the method of contextual analysis, which is used to determine the significance of language elements at all levels; 2) the method of linguistic description, which is used in the analysis of the literary text; 3) the method of comparative analysis of the original and translation, which can determine the relationship of common features and differences and draw conclusions about the artistic significance of the same language tools in different languages, as well as specific methods of scientific analysis such as observation, comparison, generalization, description. The scientific novelty of the work is to consider the object of study in the translation aspect. Scientific work contributes to the theory of translation from English into Ukrainian, thereby enriching it. The theoretical value of the work is to identify and analyze the semantic and stylistic means of the literary text, as well as to describe the features and methods of their transmission during the translation of the work from English into Ukrainian. The practical significance of the study is determined by the possibility of using the material of the work when reading the courses "Linguistic Analysis of the Text" and "Translation Theory". During the writing of the work the following conclusions were made: 1. Translation of a literary text – a complex and multifaceted type of human activity. Different cultures, different personalities, different literatures, different epochs, different levels of development, different traditions and attitudes are met in translation. Despite the fact that the science of translation is relatively young, there is a lot of theoretical work in the field of translation, the history of European culture has many attempts to present the theory of translation. It was determined that works of fiction are opposed to all other linguistic works due to the fact that for all of them the dominant is one of the communicative functions, namely the artistic-aesthetic or poetic function of language. The main purpose of any work of art is aesthetic influence, to create an artistic image. This aesthetic orientation distinguishes artistic language from other acts of linguistic communication, in which the goal is informative, informative content. Artistic translation is a type of translation activity, the main task of which is to reproduce in the language of translation a language work that can have an artistic and aesthetic impact on the reader. The complexity of literary translation is that it 100 involves at least three people – writer – translator – reader, and the role of each is special. The text of a work of art is special both in linguistic structure and in literary components, which interact with each other, creating a single living artistic organism – a literary text, the integrity of which every translator seeks to violate in order to better perceive his product by the reader at the original level. Accordingly, for modern translation studies, in understanding the peculiarities of literary translation, it will be important to study both the process and the product of translation in syntagmatics and paradigmatics. 2. The term translation transformation is interpreted differently, it mainly refers to the relationship between the original text and the translated text, which provide acceptable to preserve the meaning of differences in lexical and grammatical terms between them. Currently, in the theory of translation there is not only a large number of definitions of translation transformations, but also their classifications. Translation transformations (TT) involve the transformation of the language material from which the source text "serves". For this reason, traditionally TTs are divided primarily into lexical and grammatical, as it is the lexical and grammatical characteristics that are basic from a linguistic point of view for any text. 3. Stylistic equivalence is necessary to ensure the adequacy of the translation of a literary text. The translator must express the stylistic properties of the text, while inevitably refer to the existing in the text of the original system of expressive and pictorial means – connotative vocabulary, tropes, phraseology, syntactic means of expression (exclamatory sentences, incomplete sentences, rhetorical questions), etc. and convey as fully as possible in the translated text, because they play an important stylistic role in the literary text, form the basis of individual authorial worldview, reflect the specifics of subjective perception of fragments of the national picture of the world, and belong to the markers of individual authorial style. Lexical and stylistic language level is the basis of artistic speech, so the study of adequate translation of lexical stylistic means remains one of the most relevant areas of research in modern translation studies. The lexical composition is significantly influenced by extralinguistic reality and most clearly reflects the 101 dynamics of language development, as well as the peculiarities of the author's idiolect. 4. The novel is marked by the presence of a large number of different stylistic means – both syntactically and lexically. In the novel they are used as lexical and stylistic means (epithet, metaphor, comparison, personification, meiosis), as well as syntactic stylistic devices (antithesis, silence, aposiopesis, anaphora and polysyndeton, enumeration, rhetorical questions) and skillful mastery of all these techniques will facilitate the task of the translator as accurately as possible to convey a certain artistic image from the original test to the text of the translation. The leading methods of translation of these stylistic means are equivalent and descriptive translation, tracing, antonymous translation and omission are used less often. Translation transformations use adding, shortening, permuting, articulating, and combining sentences at the syntactic level. It was noted that expressive epithets, which often carry an expressive and emotional load, are most often translated through an equivalent functional translation. The use of equivalent translation helps to preserve stylistic equivalence. Descriptive translation is often used to translate comparisons as a stylistic tool, as it is difficult to reproduce concise and lexical in terms of lexical composition English expressions by means of the Ukrainian language. The studied novel is full of metaphors, it should be noted that these stylistic means are one of the most difficult stylistic paths for translation. In most cases, metaphorical expressions require a combined method of translation. The reproduction of the author's metaphors in translation contributes to the adequate translation of the novel in general and the preservation of the stylistic equivalence of individual stylistic devices in particular. |
